Church Bathroom Renovation 3250 California Ave., Brighton Heights, Pittsburgh, PA

Most Precious Blood of Jesus Parish is a growing congregation in the Brighton Heights neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The church, as is typical of older religious buildings, did not have sufficient, or accessible, bathrooms. Prior to the renovation, there was only one small bathroom in the narthex. The scope of work included reconfiguring several adjacent closets into three bathrooms, two of which being accessible, all while not disturbing the adjacent historic baptistery. Two new walls were built out to increase the bathrooms’ sizes, and care was taken to ensure they were designed and built to appear as if they had always been there. To match with the surrounding elements in the narthex, wooden doors were selected. The sympathetic renovation combines the needed reality of extra bathrooms with the desire to maintain a consistent, historic look to the entrance of the church.
