4100 Penn Avenue is a two-story mixed-use building along a major corridor road in Bloomfield, Pittsburgh. Prior renovations were done in the late-2000s, including making a first floor, white box commercial space, and repairing and/or adding brickwork, fenestration patterns, entries, windows, and a roof. Restauranteurs contacted citySTUDIO to complete the interior construction for their new restaurant. The main challenges were that the building’s unusual pie shape had few perpendicular angles, and although recently built, the construction did not meet accessibility requirements. Our work included a new commercial kitchen and bar, plans for the mechanical and electrical systems, code compliance, an exterior ramp, and modifications to the restrooms in order to be more accessible. The popular restaurant is now an active part of the local streetscape in the neighborhood.
