Church Renovation 907 Middle St., East Allegheny, Pittsburgh, PA

907 Middle Street is a combined Catholic church with a vacant school located on the North Side of Pittsburgh. Our task was to convert one floor of the school space into offices for the Anglican Diocese of Pittsburgh, while preserving use of the church, and other parts of the school space. Project challenges included convoluted electrical systems, limited accessibility, inadequate fire separation, adapting school spaces to new use, and a limited budget for renovations.

Several original rooms were reconfigured into new offices and a conference room; and unused bathrooms were removed, while two were kept and upgraded to become accessible. The kitchen was fully renovated with new appliances and counters. New flooring, ceiling tiles, and new paint created a fresh, inviting atmosphere. Fire rated doors were added at either end of the hallways, separating the office space from the other parts of the building. The electrical service was re-done, with new panels, outlets, and lighting throughout, along with a fire detection system. The Diocese now has an adequate and well laid-out headquarters to conduct business and further its mission.
