Historic Row House Renovation Bidwell St., Manchester, Pittsburgh

When our team first saw this historic row house, its side-wall had collapsed into alley way, and the structure was a hazard to the public. We mobilized an emergency stabilization and convinced the City not to demolish the building. In the Manchester Historic District of Pittsburgh, this 150 year old row house sat vacant until its partial collapse convinced the owner to sell. Landmarks Development Corporation (part of Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation) purchased the building and funded its historic restoration. The scope of work for the row house included installing new wood windows, historic appropriate trim and brickwork, renovating the entire interior, and resolving complicated party wall structural and fire separation issues. The renovation created a two-bedroom, one-and-a-half bathroom home, with an open concept living space. This historic structure’s restoration provided a new affordable housing option for the neighborhood and helped maintain the continuity of an historic house row.
