Bed & Breakfast Renovation 1156 Portland, Highland Park, Pittsburgh, PA

This developer had long dreamed of operating a bed and breakfast in his retirement, and had his eye on a large residence in the middle of the Highland Park neighborhood.  We laid out five suites and a library in the upper floors, and worked hard to make the building feel like a residence while still meeting fire code requirements. With creative work, we kept the first floor stair open, and guests enjoy a well detailed, historic private residence.

Because this bed and breakfast was in the middle of a residential block, the project required approval of the Zoning Board, the Planning Commission, and the City Council, as well as several community meetings before even starting the public hearings. With the owner’s significant support, we were able to obtain all of these approvals, and have one of the few B&Bs in the City that is properly permitted and can confidently display signage.
