Main Street Building Renovation 5019 Penn Ave., Garfield, Pittsburgh

Our firm has designed renovations to nearly a dozen three-story main street buildings in the Penn Avenue Arts District between Bloomfield and Garfield. This building had been sitting vacant, and its historic façade covered by siding and bricked up. During the removal of the siding, the original third floor window frames were exposed, showing paired arched windows set within a large brick arched opening. While the front façade windows were restored to their original sizes, a new appropriately designed storefront was built on the first floor.

On the interior, the first floor was fitted-out as a white box, for easy re-use by future tenants. Two new apartments, one each on the second and third floors, were designed to provide new housing in the up-and-coming neighborhood. These projects always present code compliance challenges for egress, accessibility, and general code compliance; challenges which our firm is accustomed to surmounting.
